New Book Study Beginning September 14th

Beginning Wednesday, September 14th, at 1:00, Fr. Brandon invites you to read and discuss in a group setting Barbara Brown Taylor's book, An Altar in the World: A Geography of Faith. Here's a snapshot from the book's cover:

"Taylor reveals meaningful ways to discover the sacred in the small things we do and see, from simple practices such as walking, working, and prayer.

Something as ordinary as hanging clothes on a clothesline becomes an act of meditation if we pay attention to what we're doing and take time to notice the sights, smells, and sounds around us...As we incorporate these practices into our daily lives, we begin to discover altars everywhere we go, in nearly everything we do. With Taylor's excellent guidance and delicate, thought-provoking prose, we learn to live with purpose, pay attention, slow down, and practice reverence."

Our discussion group will meet each Wednesday at 1:00pm in the Gathering Area. This will be a ten-week study, and here is the schedule of readings:

  • 9/14: 1 The Practice of Waking Up to God: Vision. and 2 The Practice of Paying Attention: Reverence. pp. 1-34

M.O.S.T.

(Men of St. Theodore’s)

The Men of St. Theodore’s will be meeting at Papa Mike’s this coming Tuesday, September 13th, at 8:00 am.

It’s a time for the guys to get together to enjoy breakfast, a cup of coffee, and conversation. We hope you can join us.

Don't forget. We are having a work day at St. Theodore's on Saturday, September 17th beginning at 8:00 am. The main reason for this effort is to refresh the look of the grounds, so we will be getting rid of pine needles and other debris in the parking lot, trimming trees and shrubs, and anything else that we can do to spruce up the church property.

If you'd like to help, bring your blowers, rakes, hand saws, and any other tools you think would be useful, and join us for a couple of hours to make our church surroundings shine.

Contact Al Addington for questions. 531-6199

Hosts are needed for coffee after the 10:30 service. There is a sign-up sheet for September, October and November on the bulletin board. All that a host needs to bring are simple treats, i.e. a plate of cookies, coffee cake, fruit, etc. Everything else is provided.

Questions? Call Renée Goodrich, 479-866-9540

This is the last Sunday to sign up and pay for your lunch.

Have you been wondering who ended up with the coveted "Golden Crank" trophy this year? Here's the "scoop".

Congratulations to our winners of the ice cream contest! Placing first with his chocolate mocha with chocolate swirl topped with chocolate covered expresso beans was Jacob Cheek! Tying for second were Christina and Joel Erdman. Christina made a gluten free apple pie a la mode and Joel made hot chocolate with marshmallow swirl. Coming in third with his citrus champagne sorbet was none other than Father Brandon! Over $300.00 was raised for ERD . Thank you to all that made this event a huge success!

Emergency Clean-up Buckets

Following the several destructive weather events that have occurred recently in this country and elsewhere in the world, the need is once again great for the buckets of cleaning supplies provided by Church World Services to areas most affected by these disasters. We supply the buckets, fill them here with the necessary supplies and deliver them to a distribution center in Central Arkansas to be sent wherever the need is greatest.

Below is the list of specific items needed to fill the buckets. These are listed by month to help you space out your shopping if you prefer to do that. Any of the items may be brought to the church at any time to be stored here until we have enough of all the requested items to fill the buckets. .

Please pay close attention to the specific descriptions of each item, as the full list is designed to fit into a 5-gallon bucket. If you have any questions, contact Sharon Moravits or Al Addington
