I never thought in a million years that I'd be a Sunday School teacher. I was asked to substitute originally, and shortly thereafter I was asked to be Joy Rodda's partner in Godly Play II.
At first, I was excited to be given the chance to have an “obligation” to go to church every Sunday. Then I was terrified when I learned that I had to memorize my lesson. Our lessons are memorized so that we can focus on the materials. When we are focusing on our materials, our students do too.
I was enthusiastic after my first lesson. I loved to see the students in deep thought. The silence of our students when the lesson is being taught is so moving. The children hear everything being told to them. It's completely amazing!
My favorite part of being a Sunday School teacher is getting to know each of my students. They are each unique. They are well behaved and beautiful -- all of them!!
Please continue to bring your children to Godly Play. I am not sure who gets more from the experience -- them or us.
