Episcopal Youth Community, also known as EYC, has instituted several changes from previous years. As of December 2005, the age of those attending was expanded to include 5th grade - 12th grade. The group meets on Sundays at noon.
The foundation of EYC is based on the following:
Fellowship/Fun – The activities planned will be defined by the EYC members and occasionally will include others, outside the group, in order for them to share their enthusiasm with all ages in the church through Christian fellowship.
Program – Although the program will be designed by, and for, the pre-teens and teens, God will be present in every activity, community service, celebration and event, and will be acknowledged throughout the defined program.
Service – The kids will be involved in service within the church and the community. This is to strengthen their focus on others and not just their own person; to identify areas they can contribute and make a significant difference; to celebrate the empowerment one feels in doing for others with greater needs than their own.
Worship – Through the worship services on Sunday, or specific religious ceremonies, their participation as acolytes will symbolize the commitment they have made to the church and to God, not only for their spiritual growth, but as an example to all the children attending mass.
Evangelism – Each day the youth will be responsible for proclaiming the Good News of God in Jesus Christ through their daily words and actions. They will strive for justice and peace among all people and respect the dignity of each other and those around them. They will seek and serve Christ in all that they say and do as a witness of their Christian values and convictions.
Reflection – Upon the conclusion of every youth gathering, be it a service project, or breakfast social, they will take the time to reflect on God's presence in their day and the event that took place. They will share with each other these perspectives and feelings in order to appreciate and learn from their fellow members' Christian experiences.
We invite you to become an active EYC member.
