Godly Parenting Class
St. Theodore’s “Godly Parenting” Book Study began in September 2005. Our goal has been to provide encouragement and support through study and discussion as we embrace Biblical methods of guiding and caring for the children in our lives. This study is open to parents, grandparents, and those who find themselves raising children in these most challenging times.
From January 2008 through May 2008, Godly Parenting continued the study of the book, “Shepherding a Child’s Heart” by Tedd Tripp. This book focuses on how to speak to the heart of your child, and is based on God’s teachings. Classes were discontinued during the summer months, as was Sunday school.
Godly Parenting resumed in September 2008 when school opened, and Sunday school at St. Theodore’s began again. Dianne Dawkins and Ann Bryson chose for our new study, the book, “The Power of a Positive Mom”, by Karol Ladd. We have all enjoyed this book a great deal, and have benefited from the use of scripture in a relevant way as we prayerfully guide the lives of our children.
The first two years of this book study, St. Theodore’s provided the books for all who wished to attend. Approximately fourteen books were purchased for 2006- 2007. The cost of the books purchased during this period of time averaged from $12- $15 each. Due to budget concerns, it was agreed that all who wished to participate in the Godly Parenting book study beginning in September 2008 would purchase their books from Dianne.
The Godly Parenting Study Group has varied in size over the past three years, from two or three some Sundays, to six or seven other Sundays. This may be due somewhat to the fact that more mothers have been called upon to teach Sunday school this fall. Ann and Dianne feel strongly that the size of the group is not the important thing. Our hope is that this ongoing study provides support, encouragement and scripturally based answers for all who participate.

Our vision follows:
Members of the Christian Education Committee are the governing body for Christian Education. We work as a team with no one person having the full load. What we are about – the nurturing of the spiritual life of our children and youth – is an awesome responsibility.
