Work Days Coming Up!
The Parish Workday this month will be on Saturday, May 17.
We should have plenty of outside work to catch up on by then, as well as areas inside the building that need attention.
Congratulations!
Brittany Brown graduates from Bentonville High School this month.
Brittany’s parents are Tregg & Beth Brown.

Our greening of the Church Committee had a hard time deciding on a winner of the $25 gift certificate. Beverly Helton was declared the winner. She offered nine suggestions that were unique including adding aerators to our faucets, setting the temperature on our hot water heaters to 120 degrees and insulating them if they were purchased before 2002, which they were!, planting trees for special occasions, including Arbor Day/Earth Day on our celebration calendar.
There were many other good ideas including car pooling, providing recycle bins at the church in order to make it easier to recycle, bringing your own coffee cup to church, eliminating the use of all Styrofoam products, using existing silverware, plates, and dishrags. There were also suggestions to have a single Sunday service, turn off the heat or the air conditioning in the building on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., use rain barrels to catch the water and use that water to water our plants, change out all our light bulbs, including our florescent fixtures, and when we install a new roof, also install solar panels and go the extra mile and install a metal roof.
Several people suggested the elimination of the booklets at the 10:30 a.m. service and other worship services. All of the white paper used in the service booklets is 100% post-consumer content recycled paper and are recycled after we have used them. When we recycle our bulletins and other office paper, we take the paper to the Bella Vista Recycling Center where it is placed in the office waste bin. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of that paper goes to support the Bella Vista Public library.
Each month the Greening St. Theodore’s Committee will be publishing articles to enhance our awareness of the legacy we are passing on to future generations and ways we can personally be a more responsible inhabitant of “this our island home.” The committee will be in communication with the vestry and together with your help we can continue to reduce St. Theodore’s adverse effect on our limited natural resources.
On Sunday, May 18, we will honor our church school students and teachers at the 10:30 a.m. service. Our children and youth will take part in the service as lectors, greeters, ushers, etc.
Please plan to be with us on May 18 to show your appreciation and support to all those who give of their time and talents to provide quality Christian Education for our young people.
We are pleased to announce that St. Theodore's will host our Vacation Bible School for children from age 3 to 4th grade from June 9 through 11,
from 9 a.m. - noon.

The Brown Bag Book and Bible Study began a new topic in the Great World Religions series:
Hinduism
We have studied Islam, Judaism, Christianity and Buddhism so far. Anyone who is interested is invited to come! We meet at noon for a taped lecture from an expert in each field. This recorded lecture series has been developed by The Teaching Company for any in the general public who are interested in learning more about the beliefs and practices of other major world religions. After the 50-minute lecture, we have a chance to discuss our reactions to the day's talk. Discussions usually last about 20 minutes.
Bring your “brown bag” and spend your lunch time each Tuesday with others who are interested in learning more about he world's major religions, including our own.

Choir Notes
The Sacrament of Reconciliation - Please contact Father Ken directly if you would like to make an appointment in order to make a private confession.
End of Life Workshops
To date, I have conducted three End of Life Workshops and have two additional workshops scheduled. I am very pleased at the attendance and the depth of the questions. The workshops are reminders to me about the lack of important information about Living Wills, Hospice Care, designated and undesignated memorials, the Episcopal Burial Office, Colum-bariums and other decisions all of us of every generation should be making today. If you are interested in attending a workshop or hosting one in your home, please call me. Fr. Ken†
Wheat-free Communion Wafers We have wheat free communion wafers for anyone who is allergic to wheat.
Please tell Fr. Ken so that he can include you with those who are receiving wheat free wafers.
Coffee at St. Theodore's
There are two coffee stations at St. Theodore's. We will have both regular and decaf coffee in Sengel Hall as well as regular and decaf coffee in the Gathering Area near the elevator. You can get a cup of coffee and visit with your friends in Sengel Hall, get a cup and come to the Adult Forum in the Church or in Harris Annex or just have a cup and visit with one another in the narthex.
Congratulations!

The children's nursery - Our new Nursery Attendant on Sunday mornings is Jaclyn Littlejohn.
During the week, Jaclyn works at Building Bridges Day Care Center in Bentonville.
Drop by and welcome her to our community.
The nursery at St Theodore's Episcopal Church is committed to providing a safe and loving environment for our youngest parishioners.
During Sunday morning church school and during the 10:30 a.m. worship service,
we provide care for infants and children less than four years of age.
As needed, we also provide nursery care during programs and classes on other days. Our goal is to give our infants and young children a safe, positive, and fun first church experience while allowing their parents to participate in the church programs they desire. Please click on the link here to see all of our NEW nursery guidelines and procedures
Doodle Paper - Do your children like to write or draw while in church?
The Daughters of the King are providing some paper in the small boxes
on the back of each pew expressly for this purpose. The paper is bright lime
green with a stamped figure at the top, and on the back, a stamp identifying it as “doodle paper.”
Please feel free to let your children use this paper, express their creativity and take it home.

These books are both fiction and non-fiction spiritual or self-help books. We will continue to look for more church library appropriate titles for Young Adults and would welcome input from parents and teens. Outreach Programs

Helping Hands - St. Theodore’s next day to volunteer at the Helping Hands store is Saturday, May 10. The needs for coverage have changed. From 8 a.m. untill noon the only people needed are three men for the receiving area in back.
From noon to 4 p.m. we will need 4 ladies to run cash registers; 3 men for back door; and 3- 4 ladies to work on the sales floor. There will be the usual sign-up sheet posted in the narthex.
As summer draws near, demand for food at Helping Hands increases. Many of the summer clients are families who have been relying on the school lunch programs. There also continues to be a reduction in federal funding for the food program at Helping Hands.
Helping Hands is one of our long time Outreach ministries, and your help is needed and appreciated. If you have any questions, contact Mike Bryson.
Project Lifesaver helps to locate people who my wander away from their residence.
Bella Vista Courtesy Van Needs Your Participation
The Bella Vista Courtesy Van provides rides for Bella Vistans who can no longer drive due to age and/or health. Many members of St. Theodore's parish have relied on this important service.
Spring is nearly here, and Bill and Dianne Dawkins will be leading the “Duffers” of St. Theodore's in another summer of fun and good fellowship on the golf courses of Bella Vista. Bill has requested Tee Times for up to 30 players.
We will again be playing a 9-hole scramble at approximately 2:30 p.m. every third Sunday afternoon from April through October.
We would like to request that before you sign up for the 2008 season, you check your summer calendar and indicate on your registration form which months you know you will be unable to play. This will allow us to contact those who have signed up to substitute in a timely manner. We would like to encourage all who would like to play on occasion to sign up as substitutes, as we do always seem to need additional players on short notice.
This is a great way to become better acquainted with people you may not know well, and to share a day of laughter and fellowship with old friends or new acquaintances. At the end of the day we usually pick a spot on the course played and share a small picnic, or meet somewhere nearby to cheer for the winners over a meal.
In March we will place information forms for you to fill out on the bulletin board. If you intend to join us, please complete one of the forms and place it in the folder that will be provided. Bill or Dianne will pick up the completed forms and add your name to the "Duffers" list. We ask that you please print your registration form. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Bill or Dianne or e-mail at bdawkins@cox.net |
