Greening of the Church
"Green" can cover a wide spectrum of things. We have talked about re-cycling, becoming more energy efficient, cleaning supplies, our pets, how our consumption will affect our children and grandchildren. This month we are talking about ourselves and our health.
Stress can cause a lot of problems that can affect our lives, and learning to manage that stress is important. We all have to find what works for each of us. Deep slow breathing is a good way to start. Prayer can be another way to relax. Some try yoga. Even housework can take your mind off of your stress.
For me a nice motor cycle ride out in the country enjoying "Mother Nature" is a good stress reducer, and recently looking at all the beautiful leaves as thy changed into their fall colors. A brisk game of tennis gets the concentration away from the stress of living, or a walk in the country, enjoying a waterfall or stream rushing by. Petting a dog or cat is known to lower blood pressure. Talking to a close friend and maybe "unloading" or sharing our problems and letting them do the same can help. Try volunteering or helping others. This can also get you into the holiday mood. Organize your time and prioritize what is important to you. Spread out activities to keep stress at bay, making your time more enjoyable.
I would love to hear of your ways of de-stressing and we could share them with others.
